Our stallion is an own son of the great Doc’s Oak on the top side. His dam, Bert’s Spunky is a grand daughter of Illini King and Bert. Bert’s Spunky was so much more than a grand daughter of Bert. She went back to the great foundation mare Mayflower twice. Her bottom side came off the great ranches, the King Ranch and the Waggoner Ranch. Our stallion produces prospects in the roping arena, cutting, reining, working cow horse and just plain enjoyable trail riding. You see, cow horses are bred to think. They have to use a combination of brains and body to work cattle and work with cowboys. With the absolutely drop dead working lines of Doc’s Oak, Bert Illini King, Poco Tivio and more, or stallion produces some of the nicest cow horses on the ground today.
Our babies mature to an average for 14.2 to 14.3 hands and weigh in around the 1100 to 1200 range. It depends on the bloodlines of the mare as to how tall they will be. We have a good assortment of cowhorse bred mares that our stud crosses on very nicely.
Oakoboji Bert was bred by experienced cutters James and Linda Randall in Iowa. They are accomplished breeders and know what it takes to make a great horse. We are very grateful to them for breeding this producing stallion.
Oakoboji Bert is also a breeding incentive stallion. All his babies born in and after 2009 are eligible for entrance. Oakoboji Bert, or Bert for short, breeds most of our mares through pasture breeding. Occasionally we breed a mare by hand but we don’t usually breed to outside mares and don’t have shipped semen.
