For over 30 years, John and Laurel Wasik have been breeding and selling good horses. We have a solid reputation for honest dealing with all of our stock. We believe no amount of money is worth misrepresenting our horses as it could only endangering you. If a horse is not suited to your level of experience we will let you know. We believe in telling you all the facts about our horses, good and bad. We won’t sell you a bad horse, period. Most of our animals are above average and some are just plain average but sane, sound saddle stock. With our bloodlines, our colts and fillies are intelligent stock that has been bred for generations to work with you, not against you. We have worked hard for our good reputation and fine herd of broodmares. You won’t be disappointed with our horses.
Our Philosophy:
Our herd stallion, Oakoboji Bert, runs with a band of 15 or so quarter horse mares in our large pastures. We believe in keeping our horses out doors in all but the worst weather. We also like the natural breeding method, with the stallion and mares running together. When the mares are about two to three weeks from foaling, we bring them inside to foal. We do this to make sure the mare gets help if she needs it and to put a handle on the foals when they are born. Once we wean the baby (anywhere from 5 to 6 months) we turn the mares back out with the band and keep the babies close so we can gentle them. The foals spend the first year inside the barn, with a lot of pasture turn out, to get them civilized, fat and happy. Before or around the age of one, we geld all our colts. We believe firmly breeding using horses and geldings make better all around horses. Our blood lines are made up of almost all cow blood, with a good blend of old and new lines. Most of our horses mature around three years old, taking more time to grow with good bone and sound, good size hoofs used to rough ground. We start saddle when our horses are yearlings, lightly round pen them and than turn them back out to pasture until they are over two. We than ride them on soft ground without stressing their legs. This keeps our babies sound, keeping their minds keen and eager to work. By the time they are three, we have horses you can be sure are great saddle horses. From trail riding to roping, our horses are bred to work with you and strong enough to go the long haul. It is a slow process, and we do sell young horses if you wish to make your own, but this insures your safety and keeps our customers coming back for more great horses.
